One of the most liberating lessons you will ever learn is that you’re allowed to listen to your intuition in the moment, not just in hindsight. You were given the gifts of intuition and discernment so that you can protect yourself from misaligned, hurtful, and harmful experiences—not to make choices that will please other people.
The problem is, we live in an era where there’s oftentimes too much noise for us to hear ourselves. We have almost limitless access to information and opinions that can alter our worldview and cloud our judgement. We can find a convincing answer to any question that we can think of in the time that it takes for us to type a sentence into our phones.
Given how easy it is to see what other people think, it’s no wonder that many of us have lost sight of how important it is for us to check in with ourselves. In many instances, we unknowingly replace our own discernment with popular opinion. We weaken our ability to use and trust our intuition when we are afraid to trust it.
Intuition is a spiritual muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it becomes. Do your research, seek out wise counsel, and get help—but also, get comfortable with the silence that comes with sitting alone until you can hear yourself, your needs, and your desires. You’ll need to be patient with yourself so that you can find the clarity that you need to move forward.
You are remarkably well equipped to make the right choices for yourself, and for your future. Trust yourself enough to be decisive. When you know it’s time to leave, leave. When you know it’s time to pivot, pivot. When you know you’re ready, move. In the words of the late, great Maya Angelou, “when someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”
I’ve had the privilege of writing in public for over a decade, and I enjoy helping other writers to reach their goals and solve problems. I’d love to work with you–book a clarity call with me here.
Hey Michell,
I recently came across your substack and I appreciate you so much for the content you put out. As someone who loves reading and writing about personal growth, I realise how we tend to look outside more often than we look inside. This makes it hard for us to act on intuition. But awareness goes a long way. Simply by building awareness, we can learn to trust our intuition. Thankyou for this reminder!
Its like you read all the thoughts I thought I knew but somehow didn’t know until someone said it
