Stop Outsourcing Your Intuition
We live in an era where there’s oftentimes too much noise for us to hear ourselves.
It took me years to learn that I’m allowed to trust my intuition in the moment, not just in hindsight. We were all given the gift of discernment so that we can protect ourselves from misaligned, hurtful, and harmful experiences—not to make choices that will please other people.
The problem is, we live in an era where there’s oftentimes too much noise for us to hear ourselves.
We have almost limitless access to information, opinions, and distractions that can alter our worldview and cloud our judgement. You can find a convincing answer to any question that you can think of in the time that it takes for you to type a sentence into your phone.
It takes a lot more time and energy to sit in silence with your thoughts until you can form your own opinion.
It’s no wonder that so many of us have stopped checking in with ourselves. A lot of us have replaced our own discernment with popular opinion. We weaken our ability to use and trust our intuition when we are afraid to trust it.
Intuition is a spiritual muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it becomes. Do your research, seek out wise counsel, and get help—but also, get comfortable with the silence that comes with sitting alone until you can hear yourself, your needs, and your desires.
You’ll need to be patient with yourself so that you can find the clarity that you need to move forward. When you know it’s time to leave, leave. When you know it’s time to pivot, pivot.
When you know you’re ready, move—and to paraphrase the late, great Maya Angelou, “when people show you who they are, believe them the first time.”

That was my biggest thing over the last month or two. Getting comfortable with silence on an entirely new level and using my discernment without external validation.
